BioSo, my canon is that the djinn were transformed into shadow men by having their angelic names written on the Stave of Life. Julian was Prince, thus he was the last transformed and is the youngest shadow man while still being the oldest djinn.
In the end, when he forfeited his life in Jenny's place, his name was taken off the Stave of Life and he died as a shadow man, only to be ressurrected as who he really is: Iblis, Prince of the Djinn.
He's still Julian, personality wise; that is who I imagine he is, was and always will be. But as he said, he can be called anything, it doesn't really matter.
